This study was undertaken to pyramid two effective leaf rust resistance genes (Lr19 and Lr24) derived from Thinopyrum (syn. Agropyron), in the susceptible, but agronomically superior wheat cultivar HD2733 using marker-assisted selection. In the year 2001, HD2733 was released for irrigated timely sown conditions of the north eastern plains zone (NEPZ) of India became susceptible to leaf rust, a major disease of the region. Background selection helped in developing near-isogenic lines (NILs) of HD2733 with Lr19 and Lr24 with 97.27 and \(98.94\%\), respectively, of genomic similarity with the parent cultivar, after two backcrossing and one generation of selfing. NILs were intercrossed to combine the genes Lr19 and Lr24. The combination of these two genes in the cultivar HD2733 is expected to provide durable leaf rust resistance in farmers’ fields.  相似文献

This presentation comprises a review on the use of immobilized algae for wastewater nitrogen, phosphorus and metal removal purposes. Details of the use of immobilized algae, the techniques of immobilization and the effects of immobilization on cell function are included. Particularly relevant in their use for heavy metal removal from wastewaters; upon enriching the biomass in metal, can be recoverd, thereby providing economic advantages. The use of immobilized microalgae in these processes is very adequate and offers significant advantages in bioreactors. The future of this area of algal cell biotechnology is considered.  相似文献

In a study of renal function in multiple myeloma seven patients presented with renal failure and three developed it 16-106 months after diagnosis. All were dialysed. Infection with dehydration was a precipitating factor in all seven cases of acute or acute on chronic renal failure. Of these, two patients recovered normal renal function and one other was left with permanent renal impairment but no longer required dialysis. Results from the seven patients with acute renal failure and for the three with more chronic features support the practice of dialysis for all patients who present with renal failure. Dialysis is not indicated for those patients with progressive myelomatous disease. The study showed no evidence that chemotherapy permitted recovery from established renal failure. The prognosis in this elderly group is heavily dependent on the presence of cardiovascular or other degenerative disease.  相似文献

The sorption of nickel, cadmium, and copper by cultured biomass from a naturally occurring bloom of Microcystis aeruginosa was demonstrated in two systems: cells suspended in culture medium and cells immobilized in alginate. Incubation in the absence of light, in the presence of metabolic inhibitors, and at 4°C did not substantially decrease the copper accumulation by cells in culture medium. Heat-killed, formaldehyde-treated, and air-dried biomass samples sorbed nearly as much (or in some cases slightly more) copper as did viable samples.  相似文献

The genus Choffatia (Siemiradzki) is an important Callovian ammonite in Kutch biostratigraphy. Several species of the genus were described by the early workers who did not recognize intraspecific variability and sexual dimorphism in terms of the modern concepts. We have described here three dimorphic species based on material reposited in the Geological Survey of India, Kolkata as well as systematically collected additional specimens with precise stratigraphic information. These species are: Choffatia recuperoi (Gemmellaro, 1873), Choffatia cobra (Waagen, 1875), and Choffatia perdagata (Waagen, 1875). The microconchs of the three species, described here for the first time, are lappeted whereas the macroconchs have a simple aperture. However, these species have similar shell morphologies and they intergrade in shell shape and sculpture; thus it is difficult to distinguish them qualitatively. Statistical analyses (both bivariate and multivariate) support that they are distinct species and there is a good correlation among the degree of involution, the degree of inflation, and the strength of ornamentation. C. cobra is the most evolute, depressed, and strongly ribbed whereas C. perdagata is the most involute, compressed, and weakly ribbed. C. recuperoi occupies the intermediate position. This interspecific diversity of Choffatia thus supports Buckman's Law of Covariation.  相似文献

Rapid eye movement sleep deprivation-associated elevated noradrenaline increases and decreases neuronal and glial Na–K ATPase activity, respectively. In this study, using C6 cell-line as a model, we investigated the possible intracellular molecular mechanism of noradrenaline-induced decreased glial Na–K ATPase activity. The cells were treated with noradrenaline in the presence or absence of adrenoceptor antagonists, modulators of extra- and intracellular Ca++ and modulators of intracellular signalling pathways. We observed that noradrenaline acting on β-adrenoceptor decreased Na–K ATPase activity and mRNA expression of the catalytic α2-Na–K ATPase subunit in the C6 cells. Further, cAMP and protein kinase-A mediated release of intracellular Ca++ played a critical role in such decreased α2-Na–K ATPase expression. In contrast, noradrenaline acting on β-adrenoceptor up-regulated the expression of regulatory β2-Na–K ATPase subunit, which although was cAMP and Ca++ dependent, was independent of protein kinase-A and protein kinase-C. Combining these with previous findings (including ours) we have proposed a working model for noradrenaline-induced suppression of glial Na–K ATPase activity and alteration in its subunit expression. The findings help understanding noradrenaline-associated maintenance of brain excitability during health and altered states, particularly in relation to rapid eye movement sleep and its deprivation when the noradrenaline level is naturally altered.  相似文献

This study reports a comparative account of metal accumulation in the trees, grasses, and flowering plants from agricultural fields contaminated with tannery wastewater. Soil physico-chemical properties along the pollution gradient and soil depth were analyzed. Monitoring and assessment of the plants growing on contaminated sites revealed that the accumulation of Cr in the aboveground part of the trees ranged from 1.87 to 34.44 μg g?1 dw with maximum concentration in Dendro-calamus strictus (34.44 μg g?1 dw). Chrysanthemum coronarium and Tagetes erecta showed better accumulation of Cr than other flowering plants. Separate field experiments were conducted on the contaminated area. The shoots of Vetiveria zizanoides (532 mg 4 m?2) and Cymbopogan winterianus (535.46 mg 4 m?2) have shown almost similar removal potential of Cr, with maximum removal potential in the roots of C. winterianus (1206.43 mg 4 m?2). Seasonal flowering plants (i.e., C. coronarium) have shown better accumulation of Cr than T. erecta. The results indicate that the plants of V. zizanoides, C. coronarium, and C. winterianus are suitable for phytoremediation of contaminated sites and trees can successfully be used for phytostabilization.  相似文献

Amino acids (AAs) play significant roles in metal binding, antioxidant defense, and signaling in plants during heavy metal stress. In the present study, the essential amino acids (EAAs), non-essential amino acids (NEAAs), as well as the enzymes of proline and cysteine biosynthetic pathways were studied in contrasting arsenic accumulating rice genotypes grown in hydroponic solutions with addition of arsenate (AsV) or arsenite (AsIII). Under a mild As stress, the total AAs content significantly increased in both the rice genotypes with a greater increase in a low As accumulating rice genotype (LAARG; IET-19226) than in a high As accumulating rice genotype (HAARG; BRG-12). At the equimolar concentration (10 μM), AsIII had a greater effect on EAAs than AsV. Conversely, AsV was more effective in inducing a proline accumulation than AsIII. Among NEAAs, As significantly induced the accumulation of histidine, aspartic acid, and serine. In contrast, a higher As concentration (50 μM) reduced the content of most AAs, the effect being more prominent during AsIII exposure. The inhibition of glutamate kinase activity was noticed in HAARG, conversely, serine acetyltransferase and cysteine synthase activities were increased which was positively correlated with the cysteine synthesis.  相似文献

Biosorptive treatment using algal biomass of Rhizoclonium riparium was proposed for higher-loading gray water for its effective utilization. A batch sorption study was conducted using composite wastewater having a wide range of initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) values (2400–44,800 mg/L). The study showed an optimum dose of 5 g/L of biosorbent resulted in 96% reduction of COD for wastewater with an initial COD of 10,500 mg/L. The equilibrium isotherm data at different temperatures were fitted to linear and nonlinear isotherms. Biosorption kinetics was studied by various kinetic models. Chemical composition and surface morphology of the biosorbent were characterized by infrared, x-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy techniques before and after biosorption. Applicability of the biosorbent-treated wastewater in agricultural uses was explored by studying the effect of untreated and treated wastewater on the germination of two seeds, i.e., Vigna radiata and Lens esculenta, and subsequently the activity of peroxidase (POD) enzymes were studied to understand the toxicity in plants. The study revealed that compared with seeds treated with different dilutions of untreated wastewater, germination (%) was significantly higher for biosorbent-treated wastewater, with a reduced level of POD activity, indicating positive response of the seeds towards the biosorptive treatment.  相似文献
